Design—Build

CAAD Lounge, American University of Sharjah.

A collaborative design–build project for the CAAD lounge, developed and constructed as a class through hands-on making in the wood workshop. Designed as a space within the college for students to study, work, or rest, the project explored collective making at full scale.

Concept

Folded planes integrated multiple functions along the window wall, composed through a combination of solids and planes.

Development

The planes were separated according to function, relocated to the non-window wall, and refined into a simpler planar system.

Final

The final scheme focused on seating and work surfaces, extending across the window wall to create a pin-up space.
